Tuesday Top 5 Red lipsticks

Reading all the September Issues of my favourite glossy mags is really getting me in the mood for fall fashion. I’m already mentally plotting my autumn looks, and was planning on doing a fall lipstick top 5 today. The problem is, its a sweltering 29’C here in Birmingham and I just can’t bring myself to write about autumn beauty on an afternoon like this. I’m still clinging on to summer by my embarrassingly unmanicured fingernails.

So, here’s a  top 5 of my favourite red lipsticks instead.

I just love how reds work for any season. A red can pull together even the sloppiest of outfits and, at this time of the year, bring out a gorgeous glow in your late summer, bronzed skin. C’est tres chic, non?

  Left to right:
The matte one – Avon true colour perfectly matte lipstick in Coral Fever. This is my go to lipstick. The colour is perfect on my yellow skin tone and it literally goes with every outfit I own. Love.
The purple one – Bourjois rouge edition lipstick in 05 Brun boheme. From the name I thought this was going to be a browny red, but it’s actually more of a really flattering, satin purple/mauve based red. I like this one in the autumn with earthy toned attire and slightly paler skin.
The brick red – L’oreal colour riche Eva’s pure red. This is my evening red. It’s a bit deeper than the others and so comfortable to wear. This lipstick and foolproof LBD = knockout.
The neon one – Rimmel lasting finish by Kate lipstick in 110. A super fun and super  bright, pink based red. Great for when I’m feeling bold, just play down the eye makeup with this one or you’ll look like a blow up doll. Needs reapplying lots but worth it for the colour pay off.
The true red – Model co lipstick in Stilleto. An all out, classic red. This is a grown up red for when you want to feel your most glamorous and expensive. Hollywood style.
I truely believe everyone can wear a red lip, the tricky part is finding the perfect one for your complexion. You can read lots about whether blue or yellow based reds suit darker or lighter skin tones, but there’s no  better way to find your favourite, than to get out there and try lots of them. Nothing more fun than spending an afternoon swatching lipsticks in your local cosmetic store now, is there?
